1. Size

Width and projection

Width is how far the awning runs along the wall. Projection is how far it reaches out from the wall when it is open.

Start with where it can fix. It goes on the wall, under the rafters, or up at the roof line. Then work out what you want shaded, such as the table or the lounge, and measure how far that sits out from the wall. That is your projection.

Width is made to your wall, up to 9.0m on a Titan Flex and 7.5m on a Millennium. Projection comes in set steps, and the deeper steps are only made on wider awnings.

How to measure and order a folding arm awning
Made for your home

Wall, rafter or roof

Not every awning can go anywhere but a wall. An MIY awning mounts three ways, so it fits where your home needs it.

  • Folding arm awning wall bracket

    On the wall

Fixes flat to the wall. The wall brackets come with every awning.

  • Folding arm awning rafter brackets

    Under the rafters

Fixes to the underside of the rafters when the wall is not the right place.

  • Folding arm awning roof bracket

    Up on the roof

Lifts the cassette up to the roof line. A roof mount comes with a motor.

Not sure which suits your place? We work it out at the free measure. Rafter and roof brackets are an upgrade on the wall brackets.

2. Cassette

Semi or full cassette

We make two folding arm awnings. The difference is the box the fabric rolls into.

3. Crank or motor

Manual or motorised

  • Crank. A crank handle comes with every awning. You wind it out and back by hand.
  • Motor. A Somfy motor with a remote. One button, out or away.
  • When a motor is standard. Over 6m wide, and on a roof mount.
  • Power. A motor needs your electrician to connect it.
4. Sensors and remotes

Wind, and who holds the remote

No awning should be left out in strong wind. Close it when the wind picks up.

  • Motion sensor. A Somfy motion sensor on a motorised awning closes it when the wind moves it.
  • Remote. A 1 channel or 5 channel remote. More channels let one remote run more than one motor.

5. Fabric

Fabric and colour

Every awning is made in Docril, a solution-dyed acrylic coloured through the fibre. It blocks 95 to 99% of UV and carries a 10-year UV warranty.

There are 73 Docril colours and stripes, all the same price, so pick on looks alone. See it in daylight against your house before you decide: ask us for the Docril sample card, or download the Docril brochure (PDF). The full range is also on our folding arm awnings page.

Before you ask

Folding arm awnings: common questions

How much does a folding arm awning cost in Perth?

A DIY kit starts from $4,476 for a Titan Flex and $6,326 for a Millennium, at 3.0m wide x 1.6m out, inc GST. Installed costs more than the kit. We price supply and install after a free measure, on one fixed quote.

How far out can a folding arm awning go?

Up to 3.6m on a Titan Flex and 4.1m on a Millennium. The deeper projections are only made on wider awnings: a 3.6m Titan Flex runs 4.2m to 6.0m wide, and a 4.1m Millennium runs 4.8m to 6.5m wide.

How wide can a folding arm awning be?

Up to 9.0m on a Titan Flex and 7.5m on a Millennium, made to your wall.

Do I need a motor?

Not always. A crank handle comes with every awning. A motor is standard over 6m wide and on a roof mount, and it needs your electrician to connect it.

Can I leave the awning out in the wind?

No awning should be left out in strong wind. Close it when the wind picks up, or add a motion sensor to a motorised awning so it closes itself when the wind moves it.

Can I install it myself?

Yes. Both awnings come as a made-to-measure DIY kit with every bracket and fixing and a step-by-step install walk-through, shipped Australia-wide. A motor still needs your electrician to connect it.

What warranty do I get?

A 5-year warranty on the awning, and a 10-year UV warranty on the fabric.

Can I see one first?

Yes. Our awnings are on show at our Perth showroom. Call 1300 123 649 to book a time, so someone is there to show you.
